ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Cortland women's cross country team finished in eighth place out of 13 schools at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational. Four Red Dragons finished in the top half of the 191-runner field.
Cortland ended with a team score of 218 points, three better than SUNY-ESF. Elizabethtown was the team champion with 25 points, followed by Case Western with 45.
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) paced Cortland's competitors with a 14th-place showing in 23 minutes, 47.7 seconds over the 6,000-meter layout at Genesee Valley Park. Elizabethtown took the top three individual spots, led by champion Brenna McNamee (22:42.3).
Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) recorded a 21st-place finish in 24:10.4 and
Sam Himes (Buffalo/Sweet Home) was 52nd in 24:54.0.
Eliza Nichols (Smithtown/Smithtown West) hit the finish line in 76th place (25:28.2).
Shannon Imbornoni (Plainview/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) closed out Cortland's top five in 109th place (26:21.6), and
Melissa Emilio (Oneonta) finished in 128th place (26:55.8).
Cortland will head to the Cornell John Reif Memorial Run on Friday, Oct. 20, at 4:30 p.m.
