ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Cornell University John Reif Memorial Invitational Friday afternoon at Cornell's Moakley Course. There was no team scoring at the event.
Brian Thurston (Long Beach) led Cortland's men's contingent with an 18th-place finish out of 55 runners. Thurston covered the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 13.9 seconds. Unattached entry Nathan Henderson won the race in 15:22.1, followed by Cornell's Samuel Chauvin in 15:34.6.
Matt Monahan (Floral Park) finished in 22nd place in 17:37.3.
Pat Carew (Levittown/Division Avenue) placed 23rd in 17:46.7, with
Declan Brown (Brookhaven/St. John the Baptist) 24th in 17:49.7.
Ryan Behre (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) closed out the Red Dragons' top five in 26th place (18:17.4).
Junior
Kaylee Uhl (Waverly), sophomore
Jesse Correale (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) and senior
Carolyn Wagner (Delmar/Bethlehem) were Cortland's top three women's finishers. Uhl crossed the finish line 28th out of 44 runners in 24 minutes, 35.2 seconds, just barely ahead of Correale's 29th-place time of 24:35.3 and Wagner's 30th-place effort of 24:36.2 over 5,000 meters. Cornell's Raisa Kochmaruk won the race in 17:56.7.
Cortland's contingent at the races consisted primarily of Red Dragon track and field athletes who have not competed in other cross country races this fall.
Cortland will compete at the SUNYAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Norwood, N.Y. The conference race will be hosted by SUNY Potsdam.
