GENESEO, N.Y. - Host Geneseo overcame an early one-set deficit and the Knights defeated Cortland, 22-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-22, in SUNYAC women's volleyball play.
Cortland fell to 7-11 overall and 1-3 in the SUNYAC with the loss. The Red Dragons will face Plattsburgh Saturday at noon, followed by New Paltz at 2:30 p.m., both at Geneseo.
Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) led Cortland with 13 kills and a .243 attack percentage.
Valerie Fischer (Williston Park/Mineola) added 11 kills and 11 digs and
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) finished with 10 kills.
Gabby Amelio (Pine Bush) dished out 39 assists for nearly a 10-per-set average, and she also contributed 15 digs.
Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) led Cortland with 17 digs, and
Jessica Allen (Syracuse/West Genesee) recorded three blocks.
Geneseo is now 15-5 overall and tied for first in the league with a 4-0 mark. The Knights were paced by Grace Cergol's 16 kills and 10 digs, Abby May's 14 kills and two aces, and Emily Ast's 43 assists.
Cortland rallied from 18-13 down in the fourth set to eventually tie it 20-20 on a Silberer kill. Geneseo twice re-gained the lead, only to have Moore tie it each time with kills. The Knights, however, scored the set's final three points on a Cergol kill and two Cortland attack errors.
