HOUGHTON, N.Y. - Cortland finished in ninth place out of 16 teams at the Houghton College Men's Cross Country Highlander Invitational. The race was held over 8,000 meters at the Field of Dreams Cross Country Course on the Houghton campus.
The Red Dragons finished with 285 points, two ahead of 10th-place Utica. NYU was the team champion with 43 points, followed by RIT with 65 and Ramapo with 68.
Cabel McCandless (Lindenhurst) placed 54th out of 187 runners in 27:03.9. RIT's Otto Kingstedt won the race in 24:46.6.
Chris Thorpe (Pine Bush) finished 61st in 27:11.0 and
Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) was 63rd in 27:13.9. Two other Cortland runners crossed the finish line in the top 75.
Grant Boyd (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) was 72nd in 27:27.3 and
Ryan Konotopskyj (East Amherst/Williamsville North) finished 74th in 27:29.6.
Cortland returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 14, at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational.
