HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Cortland men's cross country team completed its 2017 season with a 17th-place finish out of 42 schools at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals, hosted by Houghton College.

Cortland finished with 497 points, 71 ahead of the next finisher. Geneseo won the team title with 61 points, followed by RPI with 98. RIT (124), Rowan (151) and NYU (168) rounded out the top five. The top two team finishers automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships, while teams below them are eligible to earn one of 16 at-large selections, spread out over eight regions.

Sophomore Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) was Cortland's top individual with a 65th-place finish in a field of 290 runners. He covered 8,000 meters in 25 minutes, 59.4 seconds. RPI's Grant O'Connor won the race in 24:14.0, about six seconds ahead of Geneseo's Isaac Garcia-Cassani.

Sophomore Cabel McCandless (Lindenhurst) placed 84th in 26:15.5. Junior Grant Boyd (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) and sophomore Ryan Konotopskyj (East Amherst/Williamsville North) finished within a second of each other - Boyd in 97th place (26:22.5) and Konotopskyj in 98th place (26:23.2).

Cortland's competitors also included junior Chris Thorpe (Pine Bush) in 154th place (27:16.4), freshman Brian Thurston (Long Beach) in 181st place (27:54.0), and freshman Pat Carew (Levittown/Division Avenue) in 221st place (28:45.9).
