HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Cortland women's cross country team concluded its 2017 campaign with an 18th-place finish out of 41 schools at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals, hosted by Houghton College.

Cortland posted a team score of 472 points, 30 behind 17th-place Ramapo and 33 better than 19th-place Stevens Institute. Geneseo was the team champion with 41 points, followed by Ithaca (102), RPI (121), St. Lawrence (153) and TCNJ (183). Geneseo and Ithaca automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships with their top-two finishes. Other teams are eligible to earn one of 16 at-large national berths, spread over eight regions.

Senior Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) led Cortland with a 43rd-place finish in a field of 285 runners. She registered a time of 23 minutes, 14.0 seconds over Houghton's 6,000-meter course. Taryn Cordani of Ithaca was the individual champ in 21:24.3, followed by Geneseo's Elise Ramirez (21:43.4).

Two other Red Dragons finished in the 20 percent of the field. Senior Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) placed 51st in 23:24.4 and freshman Sam Himes (Buffalo/Sweet Home) was 55th in 23:29.9.

Also competing for Cortland in the regional were sophomore Eliza Nichols (Smithtown/Smithtown West) in 144th place (24:58.7), senior Melissa Emilio (Oneonta) in 181st place (25:53.8), freshman Shannon Imbornoni (Plainview/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) in 195th place (26:15.3), and senior Allison Segal (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) in 198th place (26:26.0).
