CLINTON, N.Y. – Freshmen
Jason Boyko (Poughkeepsie/Our Lady of Lourdes) and
Ian Killane (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) each earned first-place finishes as the Cortland men's swimming and diving team competed at the Hamilton College Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Cortland finished fourth out of seven schools in the final team standings with 574 points, three ahead of host Hamilton. Trinity College on the team crown with 693 points, followed by Oswego with 632 and Oneonta with 618.
Boyko won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:02.91. Killane had the best 11-dive score on the 1-meter board with 417.50 points. He was second on both boards in six-dive scoring (236.40 on 1-meter, 232.95 on 3-meter), and he finished second on the 3-meter board with his 11-dive score of 407.25 points.
The Red Dragons finished fourth in three of the meet's five relays.
Jake Borkowski (Blomingburg/Pine Bush),
Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park),
Bailey Eigbrett (Avon) and
Eric Kohlhoff (West Islip) were timed in 1:41.27 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Tim Rokos (Duanesburg),
Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point), Kohlhoff and Eigbrett finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:30.12, and Borkowski, Cornelia,
Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross) and Eigbrett finished in 3:41.93 in the 400-yard medley relay.
Eigbrett placed fourth individually in the 50-yard freestyle (22.55), fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (49.61) and sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (55.18). Donlevy finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.88) and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (55.13), and Cornelia was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.44).
Two other Red Dragons posted top-six individual finishes. Rokos was sixth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.82) and Borkowski placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (56.58).
Cortland's other relay finishes were a fifth-place showing by Eigbrett, Boyko, Rokos and Cremer in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:32.31), and a sixth-place effort by Boyko, Rokos, Donlevy and Cremer in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:23.53).
Cortland will be idle for more than a month before hosting Hartwick in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m.
