Malone's National-Best Hurdle Time Highlights Cortland's Efforts at Cornell Relays

Storm Malone's prelim time of 8.15 seconds at Cornell currently ranks him first nationally in Division III in the 60-meter hurdles
ITHACA, N.Y. – Ten Red Dragons recorded individual efforts that rank in the top 20 nationally in Division III at the season-opening Cornell University Greg Page Relays. Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland), an All-American in the 60-meter hurdles last winter, currently ranks first in the event with his time of 8.15 seconds in the preliminaries at Cornell. He finished fourth in the finals with a time of 8.26 seconds.

Two other Red Dragons qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals and are ranked in the top six nationally. Brent DiVittorio (Brewster), an All-American in the heptathlon last winter, finished fifth in the hurdles in 8.33 seconds and presently ranks fourth nationally. Micheal Outing (Farmingdale) finished seventh in the 8.40 seconds and ranks sixth nationally.

Luke Shively (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) placed third in the pole vault by clearing 4.65 meters (15' 3") and currently ranks third in Division III. Matt Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) tied for seventh at 4.35 meters (14' 3.25") and ranks 14th nationally.

Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) and C.J. White (Middletown) were both NCAA qualifiers in the triple jump last winter, and both established themselves early in the national top 10. Jones finished fifth at 14.25 meters (46' 9") and ranks sixth nationally, while White was sixth at 14.02 meters (46' 0") and ranks 10th in the country.

Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell), the 2016 NCAA outdoor high jump champion, finished third in the event at Cornell with a height of 1.95 meters (6' 4.75"). His effort ranks him 10th nationally. Two Red Dragons are ranked in the top 20 in the nation in the 3,000-meter run. Cabel McCandless (Lindenhurst) placed second in 9:00.41 and ranks 18th, while Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) finished third in 9:01.19 and ranks 20th.

In addition to the 10 NCAA top-20 individuals, Cortland also ranks 10th nationally in the 4x400-meter relay as Connor Lewis (Glen Ridge), Amauris Olivo (Bronx/Urban Assembly School for Career in Sports), James Forte (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) and Austen Johnson (Jamestown) turned in a third-place time of 3:29.36.

Tyler Hochadel (Hamburg/Frontier) finished seventh in the shot put (13.18 meters/43' 3") and eighth in the weight throw (13.58 meters/44' 6.75"), and Chris Thorpe (Pine Bush) placed second in the 5,000 meters (16:05.68). Grant Boyd (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) and Ryan Konotopskyj (East Amherst/Williamsville North) finished ninth (9:14.03) and 10th (9:14.41), respectively, in the 3,000 meters.

Also for the Red Dragons, Bryan Finn (Fonda/Fonda-Fultonville) placed ninth in the shot put (12.57 meters/41' 3"), Olivo was 11th in the 500 meters (1:07.93), Enoch Jemmott (Brooklyn/South Shore) finished 12th in both the 60-meter dash (7.19) and 300-meter dash (35.88), and Dev Williams (Syracuse/Corcoran) was 13th in the long jump (6.43 meters/21' 1.25").

Cortland will return to actions with meets at Ithaca College Dec. 8 and Lehigh University Dec. 8-9.
