Dana Kupiec Breaks 200 School Record at BU; Red Dragons Also Compete at Cornell

Dana Kupiec's 200-meter dash time of 25.43 seconds broke the previous mkar of 25.56 seconds, and her 400-meter dash time of 57.49 seconds missed the school record by a hundredth of a second
BOSTON, MASS. and ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland's Dana Kupiec (Salem) broke the school's 16-year-old 200-meter dash record at the Boston University Valentine Invitational women's indoor track and field meet to highlight the Red Dragons' performance at two weekend events.
 
Cortland finished with a combined 11 ECAC-qualifying efforts at Boston University Friday and Saturday and at the Cornell University Kane Invitational Sunday.
 
Kupiec finished 28th of 212 competitors at BU's 200-meter dash. Clocking in with a time of 25.43 seconds, she broke the previous school record of 25.56 seconds set by Kissie Pringle in 2001. Kupiec now ranks 18th nationally in the event. Midge Moore (Massapequa) also hit an ECAC mark in the event with a time of 25.99 seconds.
 
Kupiec almost set another school record with her 21st-place finish out of 159 in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 57.49 seconds missed the school mark by one hundredth of a second (57.48 by Fawn Dorr in 2007). Kupiec currently ranks 22nd nationally in the event. Kaylee Uhl (Waverly) (59.27) and Jennifer Jelic (Oneonta) (59.91) also posted ECAC marks in the event.
 
Three women had ECAC-qualifying finishes in the 5,000-meters. Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) placed 28th with a time of 17:48.38, Allison Schumann (North Salem) placed 39th with a time of 18:20.69, and Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) was 49th in 18:40.91. Cortland also had an ECAC time in the 4x400-meter relay as Jelic, Uhl, Dana Messina (East Meadow) and Kupiec finished in 4:04.66.
 
At Cornell, Tse Senior (Islip) placed third in the women's triple jump with an ECAC distance of 11.09 meters (36' 04.75") and Harley Buczkowski (Holland Patent) met ECAC standards with her eighth-place weight throw of 14.36 meters (47' 1.5"). Senior also placed ninth in the long jump (5.02 meters/16' 5.75").
 
Also at the Cornell meet, Gabriella Czerw (Holbrook/Sachem North) finished third in the high jump (1.51 meters/4' 11.5"), Katherine Doherty (Syracuse/Westhill) was fifth in the pole vault (3.15 meters/10' 4"), and Lindsay Therrien (Johnstown/Fonda-Fultonville) finished eighth in the shot put (11.09 meters/36' 4.75").
 
The Red Dragons return to action next Saturday with competitors at both the Utica Pioneer Invitational and the Cornell Deneault Memorial.
