Rokos, Burns Earn Top-Four Finishes at SUNYAC Meet; Cortland Remains Fourth as Team

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Freshman Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) finished third in the 400-yard individual medley and senior Dylan Burns (Cornwall) placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke to lead Cortland's performances during Friday's competition at the SUNYAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet will conclude on Saturday at Erie Community College's Flickinger Center.
 
Cortland remains in fourth place out of nine teams after two full days of competition. Geneseo leads with 689.5 points, followed by New Paltz (352.5), Fredonia (305.5) and Cortland (299) in a tight battle for the second through fourth spots. Oswego is fifth with 225 points.
 
Rokos placed third in the 400 IM in 4:12.42, while Burns was fourth in the 100 back in 52.86 seconds (52.58 prelims). The 200-yard medley relay squad of freshman Nick Galeto (West Islip), freshman Noah Farmer (New Hartford), sophomore Bailey Eigbrett (Avon) and Burns finished third in 1:36.55, while junior Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point), Rokos, Galeto and sophomore Tim Thatcher (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys) finished fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:12.21).
 
Farmer and Galeto each registered sixth-place finishes – Farmer in the 400 IM (4:20.29) and Galeto in the 100 back (53.00, 52.82 prelims). Cremer qualified for the finals in the 200-yard freestyle and finished eighth in 1:46.93 (1:45.69 prelims).
 
Four Red Dragons finished first in the "B" finals to earn ninth-place overall showings: sophomore Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit) in the 100-yard butterfly (52.52); Farmer in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.10; 1:00.53 prelims); freshman Thomas Ryan (Long Beach) in the 100-yard backstroke (54.77); and senior Lee Wade (Holtsville/Sachem East) in 3-meter diving (447.75 points).
 
Also scoring points during the day's competition were senior Jamie Miller (Eden) with a tie for 10th in the 100 breast (1:01.85), Thatcher with a 12th-place effort in the 200 free (1:47.81), and junior Luke Rutigliano (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) with a 16th-place finish in the 100 back (57.23; 56.21 prelims).
