Cortland Men Finish Fourth at SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team finished in fourth place at the 2017 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships. The meet was held at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center.
 
The Red Dragons finished with 414 points, just 11 behind third-place Fredonia. Geneseo won its fourth straight title and 24th overall with 989 points, followed by New Paltz (527.5), Fredonia (425), Cortland (414) and Oswego (319) in the top five of the nine-team championship.
 
Senior Dylan Burns (Cornwall) highlighted Cortland's performances on the final day of competition Saturday with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (46.98), while sophomore Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit) placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.50).
 
Freshman Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) was the Red Dragons' other swimmer to advance to the finals Saturday. He finished seventh in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:57.95 (1:56.92 prelims). The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tim Thatcher (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys), Bailey Eigbrett (Avon), Jamie Miller (Eden) and Burns finished fourth in 3:10.61.
 
Freshmen Nick Galeto (West Islip) and Noah Farmer (New Hartford) each won "B" final races for ninth-place showings – Galeto in the 200 back (1:56.90) and Farmer in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.52). John Severs (Suffern) finished 10th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:19.67) and Thomas Ryan (Long Beach) placed 15th in the 200 back (2:03.50; 2:03.14 prelims).
 
In addition, four Cortland swimmers, in addition to Burns, scored points in the 100 free. Thatcher finished 11th (48.48), Miller was 12th (48.55), Eigbrett ended 13th (48.58), and Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) finished 15th (48.70; 48.50 prelims).
