CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland and William Smith women's ice hockey teams played to a 1-1 overtime tie Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena. The same two teams meet at William Smith on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Senior
Sydney Carlucci (Baldwinsville/Rochester Edge) scored her fifth goal of the season for the Red Dragons (2-17-1, 1-11-1), while seniors
Josie Fletcher (Wasilla, AK/Alaska All-Stars) and
Makenzie Wright (Burlington, ON/New Jersey Rockets) each recorded an assist. Senior goalie
Kelly Farinella (Marlton, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 41 saves.
Junior Krista Federow (Niagara Falls, ON/Kent School) netted her team-high fifth goal for the Herons (4-11-5, 1-8-4). Sophomore Stephanie Hampton (Quispamsis, BC/New Hampton School) and freshman Kate Klimaszewski (Wallingford, CT/Berkshire School) assisted on the score. Junior goalie Maggie Salmon (Medford, MA/Governor's Academy) made 23 saves.
After a scoreless first period, Federow gave the Herons the lead at 11:37 on the power play with a wrist shot through traffic from the high slot. Carlucci tied the game up less than three minutes later, deflecting a shot past Salmon on the power play.
Each team had two-player advantages in the third period. William Smith had a 6-on-4 power play for 38 seconds but could not convert. Just over a minute later, Cortland was on the 6-on-4 power play for 1:30 and also did not capitalize. In overtime, William Smith outshot the Red Dragons, 5-0.
