Kelly Shines on Senior Day as Red Dragon Men Defeat Potsdam, 84-64

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Michael Kelly(Monroe/Burke Catholic), Cortland's lone senior, led five double-figure scorers with 15 points as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Potsdam, 84-64, in their final regular-season home game.

The victory, coupled with losses by both Plattsburgh and Fredonia, clinched a spot for Cortland (15-6, 10-4 SUNYAC) in the six-team SUNYAC tournament with four league games remaining.

Kelly, who was honored following the game, shot 6-of-12 from the field with two 3-pointers. He also recorded five rebounds and two steals. Justin Cooper (Pine Plains/Stissing Mountain) added 14 points and six rebounds, Zach Lydon (Elizaville/Stissing Mountain) and Nicky Bonura (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) each scored 13 points, and Isaiah Cotton (Poughkeepsie/F.D. Roosevelt) chipped in with a career-high tying 10 points, eight in the first half. Lydon shared the team lead with six boards and James Morales (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) had four assists.

Danny Delsol-Lowry led Potsdam (2-19, 1-14 SUNYAC) with 18 points and five assists and also grabbed five rebounds. Nosa Onabor scored 15 points and Serigne Kane added 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds.

Cortland opened up a 27-10 lead midway through the first half after five straight points by Cotton. Potsdam drew within 10 at the 5:05 mark of the half, but Cortland answered with an 11-0 run that featured a Justin Prendergast (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) layup, a Lydon 3-pointer, layups by Kelly and Cooper, and another Prendergast bucket.

The Red Dragons led 46-27 at halftime and by as much as 34 points at 63-29 on a Lydon layup with 13:20 remaining. Potsdam whittled the deficit to 19 points with 4:58 left and as close as 17 with 2:42 remaining.

Cortland will travel to Buffalo State next Friday for a 5:30 p.m. league contest.
