#11 Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Morrisville St., 16-5

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 11th-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team scored 12 unanswered goals in a stretch of 33:09 to surge past Morrisville St., 16-5, at the Stadium Complex Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Red Dragons improved to 5-0, while the Mustangs dropped to 0-3.
 
Junior Devin Phelps (Chittenango) led Cortland with a career-high eight points on three goals and five assists and senior Andrew Gonzalez (Sayville) added three scores. Sophomore Joey Panariello (Islip) notched two goals with two helpers and juniors Nate Beresovoy (LaFayette) and Liam Erickson (Brewster) each recorded two scores and an assist.
 
Juniors Nick Bonitatibus (Yorktown) and Thomas McNaney (Marcellus) as well as freshmen Corey McMahon (Lindenhurst/St. John the Baptist) and Brian Williams (Holtsville/Sachem East) netted one goal each for the Red Dragons. Senior T.J. deLyra (Brightwaters/Bay Shore) and sophomore Dean Riley (Homer) each dished out one assist.   

Junior goalie Joe Scalise (Fairport) made two saves and registered three ground balls in 42:50 for Cortland. Freshman Jake Craybas (Bethel, CT) stopped three shots over the final 17:10. Senior Mike Hart (Cornelius, NC/Hough) won 12-of-16 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high eight ground balls, while senior Dave Foster (Farmingville/Sachem East) caused two turnovers and collected five ground balls.
 
Sophomore Nick Geswaldo (LaFayette) led Morrisville with three goals and senior Corey Grace (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) and freshman Peter Piña (Culver City, CA) each tallied one score. Junior Brad Biggs (Tully) notched two assists and freshman Chris Dovi (Cortland) recorded one helper.

Senior goalie Tyler Catalfano (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) turned aside 18 shots for the Mustangs. Sophomore Shawn Walberger (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) won eight faceoffs and collected three ground balls. Junior Noah Gregor (Danbury, CT) caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
 
The teams split the first four goals of the game. Geswaldo's two goals for Morrisville sandwiched goals from Panariello and Phelps for Cortland. The Red Dragons then scored 12 straight goals. Three came from Gonzalez, two from Phelps, Beresovoy and Erickson and one from McNaney, McMahon and Bonitatibus. The Mustangs outscored Cortland 3-2 in the final quarter.
