WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Cortland women's outdoor track and field team opened its season with six top-five finishes and six ECAC-qualifying efforts at the Monmouth University Season Opener meet.
Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) finished first in the 10,000 meters with an ECAC-qualifying time of 37:44.50.
Midge Moore (Massapequa) placed sixth in the 100-meter dash, clocking in with an ECAC-qualifying effort of 12.64 seconds, and
Dana Kupiec (Salem) had an ECAC-qualifying performance in the 400-meter hurdles with her fifth place time of 1:05.12.
All three Cortland participants in the 3,000-meter steeplechase met ECAC standards.
Allison Schumann (North Salem) placed first (11:30.66), followed by
Eliza Nichols (Smithtown/Smithtown West) in second (11:37.21) and
Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) in fourth (11:52.52).
Tse Senior (Islip) finished third in the triple jump at 10.74 meters (35' 3"). Kupiec finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.11 seconds, with Moore 12th in the event at 26.35 seconds. Also in the 200 meters,
Dana Messina (East Meadow) recorded a 26th place finish (27.24), and
Kaylee Uhl (Waverly) posted a 32nd place finish (27.66) to finish in the top half of the field.
Other Red Dragons placing in the top half of the field in their events included:
Harley Buczkowski (Holland Patent), 10th place in the shot put (11.35 meters/37' 3")
Kelly Gardner (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North), 12th place in long jump (4.59 meters/15' 0.75")
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna), 14th place in the 1,500 meters (4:53.61)
Melissa Emilio (Oneonta), 22nd place in both the 800 meters (2:29.09) and 1,500 meters (5:03.55).
Cortland returns to action Friday-Saturday, April 7-8, at the Princeton Sam Howell in Princeton, N.J., and Saturday, April 8 at the Naz/Roc City Classic in Rochester.
