ITHACA, N.Y. - Senior
Mitch Couch (Oneonta) broke his own school record in the weight throw with his winning distance of 18.38 meters (60' 3.75") at the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships. Ithaca College hosted the two-day event.
Cortland finished in fourth place out of 43 schools that scored points with 40 points. Rowan repeated as champion with 115 points, followed by Utica (53), Ithaca (47), Cortland, and Brockport (37) in the top five.
Couch's winning distance broke his previous school mark, which was set at last year's ECAC championships, by more than two feet. He won the event by almost seven feet over the runner-up finisher. Couch also finished fifth in the shot put at 15.62 meters (51' 3").
Cortland also earned six additional individual All-ECAC honors and one All-ECAC relay award, which go to the top eight finishers in each event.
Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) placed fourth in the mile (4:21.23), while
Matt Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) and
Charlie Kollmer (Mount Sinai) tied for fourth in the pole vault by each clearing 4.57 meters (15' 0").
Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) finished fifth in the high jump (1.93 meters/6' 4") and
C.J. White (Middletown) was fifth in the triple jump (14.14 meters/46' 4.75").
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) placed seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.05), and the Distance Medley Relay of
Andrew Espey (West Hempstead/Holy Trinity),
Andrew Yarde (Valley Stream/Holy Trinity),
James Forte (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) and
Mehamed Abdurahim (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) finished seventh (10:32.43).

Cortland awaits the announcement of participants for next weekend's NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held at North Central College in Naperville, Ill., March 10-11. The final participant list will be posted on NCAA.com Monday by 9 a.m. The top 15 men in each individual event and the top 12 in each relay (4x400 and DMR) qualify for nationals. As of Saturday night, Cortland athletes ranking in national qualifying spots are:
