Five Cortland Women Earn All-ECAC Honors; Red Dragons Tie for 16th as Team

Midge Moore finished sixth in the 60-meter dash and 14th in the 200-meter dash
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cortland women's indoor track and field team tied for 16th place out of 35 schools that scored points at the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, hosted Friday and Saturday by Ithaca College.

Cortland finished with 16 points, the same as Frostburg State and DeSales. Ithaca won the team title with 141 points, followed by Rowan with 90 points.

Five Red Dragons earned All-ECAC honors with top-eight finishes. Dana Kupiec (Salem) finished second in the 200-meter dash in 25.56 seconds and Midge Moore (Massapequa) was sixth in the 60-meter dash in 7.93 seconds (7.91 prelims).

Tse Senior (Islip) turned in a seventh-place finish in the triple jump at 11.04 meters (36' 2.75") and Harley Buczkowski (Holland Patent) placed seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 15.02 meters (49' 3.5"). Katherine Doherty (Syracuse/Westhill) finished eighth in the pole vault after clearing 3.13 meters (10' 3.25").

Cortland's other results at the meet were:

Moore, 14th, 200-meter dash, 26.46
Gabriella Czerw (Holbrook/Sachem North), 16th, High Jump, 1.51 meters (4' 11.5")

At this point, Cortland does not have any athletes ranked high enough for the NCAA Division III Championships. The top 17 declared women in each individual event and top 12 in each relay (4x400 and DMR) qualify for nationals. Cortland's highest ranked competitors, as of Saturday night, are Kupiec (22nd in the 200-meter dash, 25.56) and Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) (29th in the 5,000 meters, 17:34.45). The final participant list will be posted on NCAA.com Monday by 9 a.m., and the national meet will be held March 10-11 in Naperville, Ill.
