Cortland Closes Regular Season with 19-5 Win at Buffalo St.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The nationally 18th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team scored the first 10 goals of the game and earned a 19-5 victory at Buffalo St. in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Red Dragons, who will be the second seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament, improved to 12-4 overall and 7-1 in the conference. The Bengals dropped to 6-10 and 3-5 but still secured the sixth seed in the conference tournament.

Senior Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) led 10 Cortland goal scorers with five and added three assists for a game-high eight points. Junior Hannah Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) tallied two goals and two assists, senior Nicolette Tortorici (Deer Park), junior Katie Wolfe (East Anherst/Williamsville North) and freshman Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) each contributed two goals and one assist and sophomore Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) netted two goals.

Senior Makenzie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) added one goal and one assist for the Red Dragons, while junior Megan Gonzalez (Miller Place), sophomore Madison Lyon (Tully) and freshman Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) recorded one goal apieve and freshman Molly Newton (Skaneateles) chipped in with an assist.

Senior goalie Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) stopped four shots in 49:31 before giving way to junior Kristyn Drake (Tully), who did not make a save in 10:29. Annable and Newton each collected four ground balls, and Meager won three draw controls.

Jackie Dufresne scored a pair of goals to pace the Buffalo St. offense. Cassie Saint-Vil had one goal and one assist, Christina Krowel and Christina Standinger each notched a goal and Morgan Hogue added an assist.

Goalie Megan Doyle made three saves in 12:55, and Elyse Stark registered four saves in 47:05. Saint-Vil secured seven draws and three ground balls, Krowel won three draws and Madz Wright contributed two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Cortland took control of the game by building a 10-0 lead just past the midway point of the first half as Ohberg scored four times and Elmer chipped in with her two goals. Dufresne ended the Buffalo St. drought at the 9:37 mark and added a second goal in between scores by Ohberg and Wolfe giving the Red Dragons a 12-2 lead at the half.

Cortland opened the second half on a four-goal run from four different players to push the lead to 16-2. The teams then closed the game with three goals each for the 19-5 final.
