Red Dragon Women Tie for Fourth at SUNYAC Outdoor Championships

Cortland's 4x400-meter relay team of Kaylee Uhl, Melissa Emilio, Carolyn Wagner and Dana Messina earned All-SUNYAC honors with a second-place finish
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's outdoor track and field team tied for fourth place out of eight schools at the SUNYAC Championship meet, hosted by the Red Dragons at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

Geneseo won the league crown with 215 points, followed by Brockport with 178.5. Oneonta (117), Cortland and Fredonia (85.5 each), Plattsburgh (49), Buffalo St. (47) and Oswego (41.5) rounded out the field.

Cortland earned All-SUNYAC honors in three events with runner-up finishes. Dana Kupiec (Salem) placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.59) and Cat Lutjen (Sound Beach/Miller Place) was second in the javelin (36.42 meters/119' 6"). The 4x400-meter relay team of Kaylee Uhl (Waverly), Melissa Emilio (Oneonta), Carolyn Wagner (Delmar/Bethlehem) and Dana Messina (East Meadow) finished second in 4:05.38. League champions earn first-team All-SUNYAC honors, while runners-up are recognized as second-team all-conference. This year, for the first time, relay teams are included among All-SUNYAC honorees.

The Red Dragons also registered four third-place finishes. Kupiec finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.30, 1:04.82 prelims) and Allison Schumann (North Salem) was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:21.73).
