ELMIRA, N.Y. – Three different players scored goals as the nationally 13th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team rebounded from a tough double-overtime setback on Saturday with a convincing 3-0 victory at Elmira College Sunday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 4-1, and the Soaring Eagles dropped to 1-3-1.
Junior
Jake Keller (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) scored his third goal of the season for Cortland, and freshmen
Jake Kaufman (Poughkeepsie/Spackenkill) and
Todd Perlman (Jericho) each tallied his first career goal in the win. Sophomore
Miguel Tunas (North Salem) recorded two assists, while junior
Dan Figarella (East Fishkill/John Jay East Fishkill) collected one assist.
Senior goalie
Connor Young (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) made one save in recording his third shutout of the season for the Red Dragons. Elmira goalie Jacob Liese registered 10 saves.
Kaufman netted the game winner in the 23rd minute, collecting a long pass from Tunas and finishing with a shot to the lower right. Just 1:55 into the second half, Tunas served a corner kick into that box that Perlman headed into the goal for a 2-0 Cortland lead. Keller finished off the scoring in the 68th minute. After Figarella hit the crossbar on a free kick deflected by Liese, Keller cleaned up with a header into the open goal.
