CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland posted a .347 team attack percentage and committed only one hitting error over the first two sets as the Red Dragons cruised past visiting Elmira, 25-12, 25-14, 25-16 in a match that took only 58 minutes to complete. Cortland improves to 5-6 with the win, while the Soaring Eagles drop to 7-3.
Cortland finished with 29 kills and only four errors in 72 total attack attempts. The Red Dragons recorded 12 kills with no errors in 19 attempts in the first set and seven kills with just one error in 26 attempts in the second set.
Nicole Silberer (Centereach) led Cortland with seven kills and no errors in 20 attempts along with two aces.
Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) finished with five kills and no errors in eight tries and
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) had five kills with no errors in 11 swings.
Gabby Amelio (Pine Bush) finished the night with 22 assists, nine digs and two blocks.
Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) totaled six digs and
Jessica Allen (Syracuse/West Genesee) ended with four kills and three blocks. Allen and
Kiersten Cote (East Rockaway/Kellenberg Memorial) shared the team lead with three aces apiece.
Natalie Schieder led Elmira with six kills and Tiara John added five kills. Taylor Kaznowski finished with 16 assists and 11 digs. The Soaring Eagles struggled offensively as they finished with 19 kills and 24 errors in 85 attempts for a minus-.059 attack percentage.
Cortland opens SUNYAC play Friday and Saturday with three matches at Fredonia. The Red Dragons meet Oneonta Friday at 5 p.m., followed with contests Saturday versus host Fredonia at noon and Oswego at 5 p.m. The SUNYAC schedule consists of nine total matches spread over three weekends, with the top six teams in the standings qualifying for the conference postseason tournament.
