BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Cortland men's cross country team finished third out of 36 schools in the White Division race at the Lehigh University Paul Short Run. Division II Southern Connecticut State finished first with 134 points, followed by Swarthmore (150), Cortland (203), Division II Franklin Pierce (204) and Stockton (222) in the top five.
Sophomore
Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) led Cortland with a 20th-place finish out of 283 runners. He traversed the 8,000-meter course in 26 minutes, 29 seconds. Wentworth's Alex Robbins won the race in 25:39.
The next three Red Dragon finishes placed in the top 40. Junior
Grant Boyd (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) ended 29th in 26:42. Sophomores
Cabel McCandless (Lindenhurst) and
Ryan Konotopskyj (East Amherst/Williamsville North) both were clocked officially at 26:49 - McCandless finished in 37th place and Konotopskyj 38th.
Junior
Chris Thorpe (Pine Bush) rounded out Cortland's top five with an 80th-place effort of 27:28. Freshman
Pat Carew (Levittown/Division Avenue) was 153rd in 28:34.
Cortland returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Houghton Highlander Invitational. Houghton will also be the host of the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals in mid-November.
