Red Dragon Women 15th in Paul Short White Division Behind Billings and Wagner

Courtney Maurin was Cortland's fourth-fastest runner in 25:30 over 6,000 meters
BETHLEHEM, PA. – Cortland women's cross country seniors Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) and Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) finished 10th and 12th, respectively, out of 271 runners in the White Division of the Lehigh University Paul Short Run.

Cortland placed 15th of 32 schools in the final team standings with 367 points. Wesleyan (Conn.) finished first with 69 points. The Red Dragons finished ahead of eight Division II programs.

Billings ran the 6,000-meter course on the Lehigh campus in 22 minutes, 59 seconds for her 10th place finish. Wagner crossed the line four seconds later in 23:03 for 12th place. Elizabeth Hilfrank of Gettysburg College won the race in 21:52.

Freshman Sam Himes (Buffalo/Sweet Home) turned in a 94th-place finish in 24:37. Sophomore Courtney Maurin (Pine Bush) ended 135th (25:30), senior Melissa Emilio (Oneonta) was 138th (25:36), and senior Allison Segal (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) was 155th (26:01).

Cortland returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Houghton Highlander Invitational. Houghton will also be the host of the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals in mid-November.
