ALLENTOWN, PA. – Cortland opened up play at the Muhlenberg College Buttermaker Women's Volleyball Tournament with three-set losses to Muhlenberg and Stevenson. The Red Dragons (3-4) resume action Saturday versus Neumann at 10 a.m. and Cabrini at noon.
Muhlenberg and Stevenson each entered the tournament with perfect 5-0 records. The Mules defeated Cortland by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-19, while the Mustangs won 25-14, 25-22, 25-19.
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) led Cortland in the opening match with eight kills, while
Nicole Silberer (Centereach) and
Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) had four kills each.
Gabby Amelio (Pine Bush) registered 21 assists and
Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) totaled a team-best 10 digs.
Kiersten Cote (East Rockaway/Kellenberg Memorial) and
Nicole Silberer added six digs each.
Kelly Tornetta paced Muhlenberg with 14 kills and three aces and Tara Register contributed 11 kills. Shannon Hubert dished out 37 assists and Maya Illovsky notched 18 digs.
Moore led Cortland versus Stevenson with six kills, followed by
Margorie Didas (Dansville) with five. Graff again led the team with 18 digs, followed by Amelio with 10 and
Nicole Silberer with nine, and
Meg Pembroke (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) finished with four blocks.
Annika Schwartz and Moriah Savage led Stevenson with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Caroline Dangel handed out 20 assists and Julie Nightwine had 16 assists, and Deanna Bradbury had 16 digs. Moriah Savage led Stevenson with five blocks.
