Cortland Men Lose Tight Home Dual Meet vs. Oswego, 156-142

Nick Galeto won the 100-yard backstroke and led off the winning 200-yard medley relay team
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team lost a home dual meet versus Oswego, 156-142, in a result that wasn't decided until the competition's final event.

Oswego led 145-136 entering the 200-yard freestyle relay, and the Lakers edged the Red Dragons by less than two tenths of a second to secure the team victory. Cortland's Eric Kohlhoff (West Islip), Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross), Nick Galeto (West Islip) and Bailey Eigbrett (Avon) finished second in 1:29.21 - if the Red Dragons had won the relay, the meet would have finished in a tie.

Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) and Ian Killane (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) were each double-winners for the Red Dragons. Rokos captured the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.02) and 200-yard backstroke (2:03.14), while Killane won both 1-meter (271.45 points) and 3-meter (270.70 points) diving.

Also victorious for Cortland were Galeto in the 100-yard backstroke (55.15), and the 200-yard medley relay team of Galeto, Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park), Donlevy and Kohlhoff (1:41.21).

Galeto just missed out on winning the 500-yard freestyle, as his time of 5:02.84 was just two hundredths of a second off the top time, and Cornelia also nearly posted a victory as his second-place time of 1:03.21 in the 100-yard breaststroke fell short by only seven hundredths of a second.

Thomas Ryan (Long Beach) posted runner-up finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (55.42) and 200-yard backstroke (2:05.14). Donlevy finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.55), Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) was second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.30), Noah Farmer (New Hartford) finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.74), and Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit) ended up second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.41).

Cortland will compete at the RPI Invitational on Saturday at noon.
