Cortland Men Lose Close Battle vs. Division II Le Moyne, 156-140

Adam Kirchgessner finished second in both butterfly races
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland posted five individual victories in a 156-140 dual-meet loss to Division II Le Moyne College to wrap up the Red Dragons' 2017-18 home schedule.

Cortland recognized its four seniors - Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point), Zach Healy (Orchard Park), Anthony McGorisk (East Hampton) and Luke Rutigliano (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) - prior to the meet.

The meet was not decided until the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. Cortland need to take first and third place in the race to finish first at the meet, but the Dolphins won the race by less than a second, with the Red Dragons second and fourth.

Jason Boyko (Poughkeepsie/Our Lady of Lourdes) won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:38.72, less than four tenths of a second ahead of the runner-up, and Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:02.37. Rokos was also second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.83). Nick Galeto (West Islip) won the 100-yard backstroke in 55.38 seconds. Galeto, the runner-up from Le Moyne, and third-place finisher Thomas Ryan (Long Beach) of Cortland were all within a half second of each other in that race.

Ian Killane (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) took top honors in both diving events with scores of 269.95 points on the 1-meter board and 266.90 points on the 3-meter board.

Bailey Eigbrett (Avon) was second in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.77) and 50-yard freestyle (22.90). Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.27) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.09), and Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit) was runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.52) and 100-yard butterfly (55.20). Patrick Conway (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) finished second behind Killane in the diving events - 233.40 points on 1-meter and 224.60 points on 3-meter - and Cremer placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.60).

Cortland finished second in both relays. In the aforementioned 400-yard freestyle relay, Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross), Cremer, Galeto and Eigbrett finished in 3:18.15. In the opening 200-yard medley relay, Galeto, Cornelia, Eigbrett and Eric Kohlhoff (West Islip) were clocked in 1:40.41, about six tenths of a second off the winning time.

Cortland will compete in a dual meet at Oneonta on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m.
