BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team finished in third place out of nine schools at the 2018 State University of New York Athletic Conference Championships (SUNYAC), held at Erie Community College's Flickinger Center.
Cortland finished with 440 points for its 12th top-three league finish in the last 15 years. Geneseo captured its 11th straight league title and 26th overall with 1,010 points, followed by New Paltz (528), Cortland (440), Oneonta (388) and Brockport (335) in the top five.
Cortland earned All-SUNYAC honors Saturday with top-three finishes in three individual events and one relay.
Kelly Davey (Plattsburgh) finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 52.90 seconds and
Heidi Simpfenderfer (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) was second in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:49.36.
Marissa Kordal (Eden) placed third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.89), and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Becca Kanoza (Syracuse/West Genesee), Kordal, Simpfenderfer and Davey finished third (3:35.35).
Rachel Noach (White Plains) recorded a sixth-place time of 18:37.51 in the 1,650 free, and Kanoza won the "B" final in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.83) for a ninth-place overall finish.
Cortland picked up points from 14 other performances that finished from 11th to 16th place.
Jasmine Elmassry (Queens/Francis Lewis) was 11th in the 1,650 free (19:12.70) and the 200 butterfly (2:22.58).
Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) placed 11th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.73).
Vanessa Vegder (Dansville) was 12th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.34), with
Alana Szewczyk (South Wales/Holland) 13th (2:37.60, 2:35.33),
Emma Gulbin (Wall Township, NJ/Wall) 15th (2:38.35, 2:38.18 prelims) and
Kathleen Gallagher (Pearl River) 16th (2:38.37).
Rachel Pinsky (West Hartford, CT/Hall) finished 13th in 3-meter diving with 298.10 points and
Jacqueline Lang (Middletown/Pine Bush) placed 15th (287.65 points).
Lauren McBrinn (Suffern/Paramus Catholic (NJ)) and
Halle King (Auburn/Skaneateles) finished 14th (19:29.19) and 15th (19:32.62), respectively, in the 1,650 free.
Lily Miller (Buffalo/Starpoint) was 15th in the 100 free (56.07, 55.71 prelims),
Kalee Walden (Dryden) finished 15th in the 200 butterfly (2:26.47, 2:25.73 prelims), and Noach was 16th in the 200 backstroke (2:20.22, 2:17.18 prelims).
