DiVittorio Wins Heptathlon at Ithaca Meet

Brent DiVittorio set a personal best in the heptathlon with 4,987 points
ITHACA, N.Y. – Brent DiVittorio (Brewster) won the heptathlon and the Red Dragons boasted the top collegiate finisher in the triple jump and long jump at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational and Multi men's indoor track and field meet.

DiVittorio finished first out of 29 competitors in the heptathlon with a personal-best score of 4,987 points. He was an All-American last winter with a seventh-place NCAA score of 4,919 points. DiVittorio currently ranks third nationally in Division III and first in the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC). His highest-scoring event was 879 points in the 60-meter hurdles (8.42 seconds), followed by 789 points in the 60-meter dash (7.27) and 771 points in the long jump (6.82 meters/22' 4.5"). Zach Kashmer (Chili/Churchville-Chili) finished in eighth place with 4,604 points, fueled by 742 points in the 60-meter dash (7.41) and 725 points in the long jump (6.62 meters/21' 8.75").

Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) was the top collegian in the triple jump (second overall) at 14.44 meters (47' 4.5"), and he was fourth in the long jump at 6.83 meters (22' 5"). Dev Williams (Syracuse/Corcoran) placed second overall (first collegiate finisher) in the long jump at 6.90 meters (22' 7.75").

C.J. White (Middletown) placed fifth in the triple jump at 14.15 meters (46' 5.25"), followed by Kwaku Ofosu (Latham/Shaker) in seventh (13.70 meters/44' 11.5"), Williams in eighth (13.69 meters/44' 11"), and Wendell Brand (Sleepy Hollow) in 10th (13.50 meters/44' 3.5"). Brand also placed 11th in the long jump at 6.65 meters (21' 10").

Micheal Outing (Farmingdale) and Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) placed second and third, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles. Outing's finals time of 8.16 seconds currently ranks sixth nationally in Division III. Malone recorded the same time of 8.28 seconds in both the prelims and the finals.

Matt DeLorenzo (Wallkill) finished second of 28 in the pole vault (4.40 meters/14' 5.25") and Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) was sixth in the high jump (1.93 meters/6' 4"). The 4x400-meter relay team of Adam Perilli (Lockport), Ricky Castello (New Rochelle), Connor Lewis (Glen Ridge) and Austen Johnson (Jamestown) finished third out of 25 in 3:24.73.

All of the performances mentioned above are AARTFC qualifiers.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Johnson, Perilli, Lewis and Castello missed the regional qualifying standard by less than a second with their fourth place time of 1:33.80.

In addition to DeLorenzo, three other Red Dragons finished in the top eight in the pole vault. Matt Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley), Charlie Kollmer (Mount Sinai) and Luke Shively (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) each cleared 4.25 meters (13' 11.25"). Greenlaw was fifth, Kollmer and sixth and Shively tied for eighth officially since Kollmer has more misses at 4.10 meters compared to Greenlaw, and Shivley cleared 4.25 meters on his second try compared to the first attempt for the others.

Four Red Dragons finished in the top 12 out of 35 runners in the 5,000 meters. Chris Thorpe (Pine Bush) was seventh (15:51.95), Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) placed eighth (15:53.78), Cabel McCandless (Lindenhurst) finished ninth (16:00.72), and Ryan Konotopskyj (East Amherst/Williamsville North) was 12th (16:04.25).

Coach's Corner – Comments from Head Coach Steve Patrick on the men's and women's meets:

I'd like to really comment on the depth of our heptathletes. Obviously Brent DiVittorio did quite well, but Zach Kashmer had an exceptional weekend, including a huge performance in long jump. For the women, Nicole Wise also had a really strong weekend in the pentathlon! We also saw some great depth in the performances from our top four guys in the 5k, as well as both of our men's 4x400 relays. Sara Billings had a pretty exceptional mile, and Dana Messina put down a great time in the 200. I'd also like to make mention Gabi Ghanime and Matt DeLorenzo, who both had new personal records in the pole vault. The 200-3,000 meter folks are excited for the trip to run at Boston University next weekend, and we're fortunate to have another great opportunity to compete in the field events at Cornell next Sunday.
