BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Junior
Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles to highlight the Cortland's performances at Day 1 of the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Malone recorded the seventh-fastest time in the preliminaries in 8.21 seconds and will be one of eight competitors in Saturday's 2 p.m. finals. Malone was an All-American last year with an eighth-place finish. The top eight finishers are All-Americans in each event and score team points.
Junior
Micheal Outing (Farmingdale) also competed in the 60-meter hurdles and finished in 13th place in 8.40 seconds. Senior
Dev Williams (Syracuse/Corcoran) finished in 14th place in the Friday's long jump finals with a distance of 6.44 meters (21' 1.5").
Junior
Brent DiVittorio (Brewster) is currently 14th after Day 1 of the heptathlon with 2,518 points. He's less than 100 points out of 10th place and 150 points from eighth place with three events remaining. DiVittorio opened with a fourth-place showing and 792 points in the 60-meter dash (7.26 seconds) and scored 664 points with his ninth-place long jump of 6.35 meters (20' 10"), but placed in the bottom four in the shot put and high jump. Saturday's competition features the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run.
In addition to Malone in the 60-meter hurdles finals and DiVittorio in the heptathlon, Cortland will also be represented Saturday by senior
Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) in the triple jump finals at 11 a.m. Jones is a national qualifier in the event for the third straight year.
