SCRANTON, PA. - Catherine Manning and Kristin Kirwan recorded eight kills apiece as Scranton defeated visiting Cortland, 25-15, 25-14, 25-16, in a non-league women's volleyball match.

Cortland (4-5) was led by Kiersten Cote (East Rockaway/Kellenberg Memorial) with six kills and seven digs and Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) with five kills and 12 digs. Gabby Fernandes (Islip) added 11 digs and Gabby Amelio (Pine Bush) finished with 12 assists and six digs.

Scranton (7-3) finished with a .210 team attack percentage and limited Cortland to an .012 percentage. In addition to Manning's and Kirwan's eight kills, Megan Monastra added seven kills and seven digs, Kindler Norman distributed 19 assists, and Regina Schetroma led the team with 11 digs.

The hosts pulled away from a 9-7 lead in the first set with a 7-3 run, capped by a Kirwan kill, to go up 16-10. The second set was tied 11 times, the last at 12-12 on a Cote kill, before the Royals rattled off four straight points. Cortland got a point back on a service error, but Scranton scored the next seven and never looked back. The key portion of the third set was a 4-0 run that pushed Scranton's lead from 7-5 to 11-5. Cortland was within 21-15 after a kill by Cote before Scranton finished on a 4-1 run.

Cortland will play two matches Saturday at Muhlenberg College. The Red Dragons will face Carnegie Mellon at noon and the host Mules at 2:30 p.m.
