ONEONTA, N.Y. – The nationally 14th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals in defeating Oneonta, 2-0, Friday afternoon to improve to 8-0-2 and extend the program's best unbeaten streak to open a season since the 1990 team started the season 14-0-5 before falling in the NCAA Div. III Quarterfinals.

Jake Keller (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) scored his team-high eighth goal of the season, including his fourth game-winner, and freshman
Anthony Ruggiero (Holtsville/Sachem East) also scored. Juniors
Miguel Tunas (Carmel/North Salem) and
Nevin Nambiar (New Hyde Parks/Herricks) each collected an assist.
Junior goalie
Sean Kelly (Coram/Newfield) made one save for Cortland, now 2-0 in the SUNYAC, in posting his seventh shutout of the season in 10 starts. Goalie Nicholas Giordano stopped three shots for Oneonta (5-3-2, 2-1 SUNYAC).
Keller tallied the game-winning goal in the 38th minute, scoring on a header to the right side of the goal off a Tunas corner kick. Just under three minutes later, Ruggiero netted an insurance goal. Nambiar sent a long lead pass from Cortland's side of midfield that bounced once toward the top of the box. Giordano charged off his line, but Ruggiero beat him to the ball and chipped a shot over the goalkeeper to make it a 2-0 game. In the second half, Oneonta outshot Cortland, 12-2, but did not put any of the shots on goal.
