Cortland Men Win at New Paltz, 167-95, Behind Eight Individual Winners

Dylan Cornelia won the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke races
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Cortland won eight individual events, including two each by Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park), Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) and Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit), as well as both relays in the Red Dragons' 167-95 men's swimming and diving dual-meet win at New Paltz.

Cornelia won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.06) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.93). Rokos touched the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.56) and 200-yard individual medley (2:03.85), and Kirchgessner won the 100-yard butterfly (54.63) and 200-yard butterfly (2:06.97). Nick Galeto (West Islip) captured the 100-yard backstroke (53.54) and Eric Kohlhoff (West Islip) won the 50-yard freestyle (22.65).

Galeto, Cornelia, Bailey Eigbrett (Avon) and Kohlhoff won the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay (1:39.73) and Kohlhoff, Jason Boyko (Poughkeepsie/Our Lady of Lourdes), Eigbrett and Galeto closed the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:19.99).

Cortland swept the top three spots in four different events. Noah Farmer (New Hartford) was second behind Cornelia in both breaststroke events. He finished the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.04, with Alex Fisher (Smithtown/Hauppauge) third in 1:04.44, and he swam the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.78, with Alex Regna (Brockport) third in 2:27.61. Galeto finished second behind Rokos in the 200 back in 2:03.60, followed by Ian Murray (Moravia/Southern Cayuga) in third (2:12.70), and Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross) was second behind Kirchgessner in the 200-yard fly (2:07.86), with Pat Calhoun (Oneonta) third (2:09.73).

Donlevy was also second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.23), Kohlhoff finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.83) and Fisher was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.75). Thomas Ryan (Long Beach) was the 100-yard backstroke runner-up (58.05), Josh Chamak (New City/Clarkstown North) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.47) and Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) was second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.26).

There were no diving events during the competition since New Paltz's Elting Pool does not have a diving area.

Cortland will compete at Oswego in a dual meet on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 4 p.m.
