Red Dragons Drop Non-Conference Game vs. Nazareth

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Brian Miller (Marlton, NJ/Forest Lake Lakers) recorded a hat trick in the first period to lead the Nazareth men's hockey team to a 5-1 win at Cortland Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Arena.

Freshman Ethan Homitz (Allison Park, PA/New Hampshire Monarchs) scored his first career goal for the Red Dragons (7-9). Junior Stefano Alonzi (King City, ON/Burlington Cougars) and freshman Mike Sciore (Syracuse/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) each registered an assist. Freshman Owen Zdunski (Findley Lake/Chippewa Steel) earned his first collegiate starts, making eight saves in 14:02 before giving way to junior Nick Modica (Suffern/New Jersey Hitmen), who stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced over the final 45:58.

Sophomore Ray Falso (Skaneateles/Skaneateles H.S.) and junior James McDonald (Potsdam/Vermont Lumberjacks) each added a goal for the Golden Flyers (8-4-4), senior Alex Corvi (Barrington, RI/Walpole Express) recorded two assists, while seven different players collected one assist apiece. Junior goalie Michael Tilford (Traverse City, MI/Connecticut Oilers) turned aside 28 shots.

Nazareth took a 4-0 lead after the first period of play as Miller netted his three goals and Falso also scored. Homitz scored on a one-time shot while Cortland skated on the power play at 16:13 of the second period before McDonald completed the scoring with a deflection at 7:17 of the third period.

The Red Dragons held the Golden Flyers to 0-for-7 on the power play, including a two-man advantage for 1:18, while Cortland finished 1-for-5 on the power play in the game.
