Cortland sophomore
Chelsea Allain (Saratoga/Canterbury School) has been chosen as the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) Goalie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 13.
Allain made a career-high 40 saves to earn her second shutout of the season as Cortland won at Nichols College, 3-0, last Saturday in non-league action.
For the season, Allain has a 4-0-1 record, a 0.88 goals-against average and a .966 save percentage in eight appearances. Those totals include her 16-save effort in a 2-1 win at Canton on Tuesday, Jan. 13, that was not included in consideration for the recent NEWHL weekly awards. Allain currently ranks third nationally in Division III in save percentage and fourth nationally in GAA.
Cortland (7-5-3) has won five straight games and is unbeaten in its last six outings. The Red Dragons will host nationally second-ranked Plattsburgh in a pair of NEWHL games Friday and Saturday, both at 2 p.m.
The NEWHL is in its second season of existence in 2018-19. The conference consists of Cortland, Buffalo St., Oswego, Plattsburgh and Potsdam - all previously members of the ECAC West. Canton and Morrisville will join the NEWHL in the 2019-20 season.
