Cortland Men Edged in Dual at Division II Le Moyne, 154-140

Adam Kirchgessner won the 100-yard butterfly
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team dropped a tight 154-140 dual-meet decision at Division II Le Moyne College despite five individual event wins and victories in both relays.

Nick Galeto (West Islip) picked up two wins with his times of 54.06 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke and 2:00.50 in the 200-yard backstroke. Jason Boyko (Poughkeepsi/Our Lady of Lourdes) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.81) and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.41), and Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit) won the 100-yard butterfly (54.64).

Patrick Conway (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) earned a combination of first-place and second-place points in diving. Since there was no 3-meter event, the 1-meter competition was broken down and scored as two parts. Conway finished first in one portion with 186.80 points and second in the other with 183.05 points for a combined score of 369.85 points.

The foursome of Galeto, Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park), Bailey Eigbrett (Avon) and Eric Kohlhoff (West Islip) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.04, less than four tenths of a second in front of Le Moyne's top unit. Boyko, Galeto, Kohlhoff and Eigbrett won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:17.58.

Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) picked up a pair of runner-up finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:18.57) and 500-yard freestyle (5:00.09). Cornelia was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.04) and Kohlhoff placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.83).

Other Red Dragons registering second-place finishes included: Thomas Ryan (Long Beach) in the 100-yard backstroke (55.25); Noah Farmer (New Hartford) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.80); and Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.14).
