GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Cortland wrestling team earned wins in the final four weight classes to secure a 23-16 dual-match victory at Nassau Community College Saturday afternoon to raise its record to 6-5 on the season.

The Red Dragons fell behind, 13-4, after the first four bouts of the match with sophomore Matt Maquet (Long Beach) recording a 17-4 major decision at 133 pounds for Cortland's points.

Sophomore Gianno Silba (Newark Valley) earned a tough 6-5 decision over Gavin Leath at 157 pounds to pull Cortland to within 13-7 midway through the match. After sophomore Charlie Spada (Long Beach) dropped a close, 13-10, decision at 165 pounds, the Lions led 16-7 with four weight classes remaining.

Junior Matt Davis (Catskill) started the comeback with a 12-3 major decision over Tyler Lynde at 174 pounds to pull Cortland to within 16-11. Junior Josh Farrar (Morrisville/Morrisville-Eaton) made it a 16-14 score with a narrow 4-3 decision at 184 pounds. Sophomore Mark Rivera (Long Beach) earned an important 5-2 decision at 197 pounds to put the Red Dragons in front, 17-16, leaving the balance of the match to the heavyweights. Junior Ben Klei (Victor) sealed the Cortland win with a pin of his opponent in 3:49 for the 23-16 final.
