CORTLAND, N.Y. – Kevin Mackin scored 30 points to lead four Oneonta double-figure scorers as the visiting Red Dragons defeated Cortland, 85-70, in SUNYAC men's basketball action.

With the loss, Cortland dropped to 14-5 overall and is now third in the SUNYAC with an 8-4 league mark. Oneonta evened its overall record at 9-9 and is 4-7 in the conference.

Mackin finished 12-of-24 from the field, 6-of-16 from 3-point range, and grabbed seven rebounds in a full 40 minutes of action. Joseph Bull hit 7-of-11 shots and ended with 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Ian Schultz made all five of his field goal attempts in a 15-point, 13-rebound performance, and Harrison Deegan contributed 13 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Zach Lydon (Elizaville/Stissing Mountain) led Cortland with 18 points, 16 in the first half. He made four 3-pointers. Nicky Bonura (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) totaled 14 points and a career-high six assists, while Kenny Charles (Huntington) and Justin Cooper (Pine Plains/Stissing Mountain) each scored 10 points. Cooper also finished with nine rebounds and four assists. Ricardo Dominguez (New York City/Our Saviour Lutheran) added nine points in 18 minutes off the bench.

Oneonta opened up a 15-2 lead five minutes into the game and led by at least eight the rest of the way. The Red Dragons led 48-30 at halftime behind 56 percent shooting from the field, and they extended the lead to 25 points at 57-32 just over two minutes into the second half. The margin stayed in the 20-point range much of the second half until a late Cortland push created the final 15-point margin.

Oneonta finished the game shooting 52 percent overall and 35 percent (10-for-29) from long distance. Cortland shot 40 percent overall – 47 percent in the second half – but was only 28 percent (8-for-29) from 3-point distance. The teams combined to turn the ball over only 11 times – seven by Oneonta and four by Cortland.

Cortland travels to league-leading Oswego on Saturday at 4 p.m.
