Head shots of Chelsea Allain and Grace Schnorr with NEWHL Logo - Goalie and Rookie of the Week

Allain and Schnorr Earn NEWHL Weekly Awards

Cortland sophomore Chelsea Allain (Saratoga/Canterbury School) has been chosen as the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) Goalie of the Week, and sophomore Grace Schnorr (Camillus/Little Caesars) has been named the NEWHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 17. This is Allain's second selection, while Schnorr has earned the honor three times this season.

Allain recorded a 2-0 record with a 0.50 goals-against average, 64 saves, a .985 save percentage and one shutout as the Red Dragons swept a pair of home conference games versus Buffalo St. last weekend. During a 3-0 win on Friday, she stopped 32 shots to register her third shutout of the season, tying the program single-season mark set during the 2001-02 campaign. Allain followed up with another 32 saves in a 2-1 victory on Saturday.

For the season, she has a 6-1-1 record with a 1.38 GAA and a .953 save percentage. She ranks sixth nationally in save percentage and 14th in GAA.

Schnorr, who is playing her first year of collegiate ice hockey, leads the Red Dragons in scoring with 14 points on a team-best 11 goals and three assists. In the two wins, she collected two goals and one assist. Schnorr opened the weekend by assisting on Cortland's second goal and adding a breakaway goal in the third period in the Red Dragons' 3-0 win. She then netted the game-winning goal in the third period when she converted a breakaway as Cortland registered the 2-1 come-from-behind victory.

Cortland (9-7-3) has posted a 7-2-1 record in its last 10 outings. The Red Dragons play at Potsdam, Friday at 7 p.m., and host the Bears, Saturday at 2 p.m., in a pair of NEWHL games.

The NEWHL is in its second season of existence in 2018-19. The conference consists of Cortland, Buffalo St., Oswego, Plattsburgh and Potsdam - all previously members of the ECAC West. Canton and Morrisville will join the NEWHL in the 2019-20 season.
