Emma Schulz competes on floor during Cortland's season opener vs. Brockport
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's gymnastics team opened its 2019 season with a 186.575-182.95 dual-meet loss to visiting Brockport.
Rachel Filipski (Lancaster) and
Emma Schulz (Poughquag/Arlington) each posted a pair of top-five individual event finishes. Filipski was second on vault and third on floor, each with a 9.575. Schulz finished second on floor with a 9.725 and fifth on balance beam with a 9.40.
Megan Hanley (Lynbrook/Malverne) made her collegiate debut with a tie for third place on balance beam (9.40). She was also the lone all-around competitor of the afternoon and recorded a score of 36.70.
Lily Szafranski (Williamsville/Williamsville South) finished fifth on floor with a 9.40 and
Vivian Trevisani (Colchester, VT) placed fifth on bars with a 9.225.
Kamryn Rodriguez (Minisink/Minisink Valley), in her first collegiate meet, finished sixth on vault with a 9.225.
Brockport had the individual winners in each event. Stephanie Mager won vault (9.625), Candis Kowalik won bars (9.50), Alexis Frankowski and Dorothy Wernick tied for first on beam (9.425), and Taylor Keough won floor (9.75).
Cortland will travel to Division I University of Maryland for a quad meet on Sunday, Jan. 13. The Red Dragons will compete against the Terrapins, Division I University of Pennsylvania and Division II West Chester University.
