PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Cortland battled to win a tight first set and then cruised from that point for a 25-22, 25-11, 25-15 SUNYAC victory at Plattsburgh. The Red Dragons improved to 20-7 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) and
Hannah Southcott (Princeton, WV) led Cortland with 11 kills each, and Southcott also registered 10 digs.
Maya Owens (Nyack) and
Bridgette Moran (Massapequa Park/St. John the Baptist) added six kills each, and Owens and
Camryn Anderson (Bronx/Cardinal Spellman) led the way with three blocks apiece.
Malley Bowen (Tioga/Tioga Central) finished with 20 assists, three aces and eight digs and
Gabby Amelio (Pine Bush) had 18 assists, six aces and six digs.
Carly Haegele (Commack) led the Red Dragons with 14 digs and
Kiersten Cote (East Rockaway/Kellenberg Memorial) added eight digs.
Jenn Braun and Michelle Simmons led Plattsburgh (7-13, 0-5 SUNYAC) with seven kills each and Allyssa Rock had 20 assists.
The first set was tied at 22 before Cortland scored the final three points on an attack error, a block by Owens and Anderson, and a Bowen ace. The Red Dragons raced out to 15-2 and 22-7 leads in the second set on the way to the easy victory. In the third set, Cortland extended a 9-8 lead to 14-8 on a run that featured two Bowen aces and kills by Southcott, Owens and Anderson. The lead remained at four or more the rest of the way.
Cortland will travel to Fredonia next Friday at 6 p.m. and Buffalo State Saturday at 1 p.m.
