Cortland improved to 19-6 overall and remained unbeaten in league play with a 3-0 record. The Red Dragons defeated New Paltz for the first time since the 2012 regular season. The Hawks dropped to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Carly Haegele (Commack) totaled a team-high 12 digs.
Maddie Van Pelt led the guests with eight kills and Haley Timarky had 21 assists.
Cortland jumped out the gate quickly, taking a 7-1 lead in the first set. The Red Dragons then used an 12-1 run to turn an 8-4 set into a rout at 20-5. In a much tighter second set, the teams were tied at 9-9, and although Cortland never trailed after that, it couldn't put away the Hawks until the end. New Paltz used a 6-0 run to cut the Red Dragons' 22-15 lead to 22-21. Mangogna stemmed the tide with a kill, followed by a block by Moore and
Bridgette Moran (Massapequa Park/St. John the Baptist) to make it 24-21. New Paltz scored the next point, but Cortland won the set after a service error by the Hawks.
The Red Dragons took control with an early 9-0 run in the third that changed a 4-2 deficit into an 11-4 lead. That stretch featured all three of Amelio's aces, three kills by Moore, and one kill each by Mangogna and Moran. Leading 12-8, Cortland helped wrap up the victory with four straight points, the last two on Anderson kills, and the lead was at least six the rest of the way.
Cortland finished the match with a .240 team attack percentage (36 kills, 13 errors in 96 attempts), including a .333 mark in the second and a .268 total in the third. New Paltz hit a minus-.278 in the first set after committing 15 attack errors (six as a result of Cortland blocks) and finished the match with a .000 attack percentage (25 kills and 25 errors in 99 attempts).
Cortland heads to the North Country next weekend for SUNYAC matches at Potsdam Friday at 6 p.m. and at Plattsburgh Saturday at 1 p.m.
