BRISTOL, R.I. – Junior Gianno Silba (Newark Valley) earned a third-place finish to lead the Cortland wrestling team at the Roger Williams Invitational. The Red Dragons finished 10th out of 17 teams at the event with 70 points. Johnson & Wales University claimed the team title with 174 points.

Silba was one of three placewinners for Cortland as he was joined by sophomore Demitreus Henry (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) and freshman Deaquan Stuart (Roosevelt) in the top six.

Silba posted a 6-1 record at 157 pounds. He opened with two pins, a technical fall and a decision to advance to the semifinals. After a loss, Silba rebounded with a pair of pins to earn his third-place finish.

Henry posted a fourth-place finish at 174 pounds, recording a 4-1 record. He registered back-to-back pins followed by a decision to reach the semifinals. After a tough 4-3 setback, Henry earned a 4-3 decision before forfeiting the third-place match.

Stuart went 4-2 to secure a fifth-place finish at 285 pounds. He earned three wins, two by decision and one by medical forfeit to move onto the semifinals. After a close 4-2 loss, Stuart moved to the consolation bracket, where he eventually earned a 3-2 decision to capture fifth place.
 
Five other Red Dragons posted multiple victories during the tournament. Three of those came at 149 pounds as Ryan Burgbacher (Medford/Patchogue-Medford) went 4-2 with two pins, Chandler Merwin (Walton) was 2-2 with two pins and Dustin Harris (Syracuse/Solvay) finished 2-2 with a pin and a major decision. Steven Gazzillo (New Windsor/Cornwall) went 2-2 with two major decisions at 165 pounds and Kevin Morgans (Liberty) finished 2-2 with a major decision at 197 pounds.
 
Cortland will compete at the New York State Collegiate Championships on Sunday at SUNY Oswego.
