ITHACA, N.Y. – Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) won both the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle races to lead Cortland's performances in the Red Dragons' 218-80 dual-meet opening loss at Ithaca College.

Bernhardt swam the 1,000 free in 10:16.55, winning by almost 15 seconds, and his time of 4:58.76 in the 500 free beat the field by just about nine seconds.

Five Red Dragons posted runner-up finished on the afternoon. Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.41) and Nick Galeto (West Islip) placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (54.15). Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park) finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.22), Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) was second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.74), and Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross) ended second in the 100-yard butterfly (54.99).

Cortland will travel to Buffalo State next Saturday for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
