Cortland Men Shine Late for 151-136 Dual Win at Buffalo State

Tim Rokos won the 200-yard IM and 200-yard freestyle races
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Cortland took the top two spots in the final individual event and won the meet-ending relay to rally for a 151-136 dual-meet victory at Buffalo State.

Cortland trailed 127-121 before Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) and Josh Chamak (New City/Clarkstown North) claimed first and second-place points in the 200-yard individual medley. Rokos won in 2:06.78 and Chamak was second in 2:08.45. The Red Dragons secured the victory when Hunter Bernhardt (Groton), Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross), Jason Boyko (Poughkeepsie/Our Lady of Lourdes) and John Severs (Suffern) won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:25.85.

Rokos and Bernhardt each finished with two individual wins on the afternoon. Rokos won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.98) in addition to his 200 IM victory, and he was second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.80). Bernhardt captured the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:13.60) and 500-yard freestyle (5:00.43). In addition, Alex Fisher (Smithtown/Hauppauge) won the 50-yard breaststroke (29.65), in addition to a second-place showing in the 50-yard backstroke (27.67), and James Bush (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.85).

Boyko picked up two second-place finishes with times of 1:09.24 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 10:45.08 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Donlevy was second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.86).

Mo Diarra (New York/East Side Community) finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.65) and Tom Ryan (Long Beach) touched the wall second in the 100-yard backstroke (58.78). Pat Conway (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) claimed second-place points in both 1-meter (201.30 points) and 3-meter (204.50 points) diving, and the quartet of Rokos, Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park), Donlevy and Chamak finished second in the 400-yard medley relay (3:47.77).

Cortland heads to Geneseo Friday for a 6 p.m. dual meet.
