WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – The Cortland wrestling team finished in first place out of four teams with a 3-0 record at Lycoming College's Rennie Rodarmel All State Duals. The Red Dragons opened with a 35-18 win over Pitt Bradford, edged the host Warriors, 19-18, and defeated King's College, 33-13.

Cortland won the first seven matches versus Pitt Bradford, four by forfeit. On the mat, Jeremy Pond (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) won 7-5 at 141 pounds, Gianno Silba (Newark Valley) was a winner by technical fall, 17-0 in 3:08, at 157 pounds, and Alex Leone (North Salem/Carmel) earned a 7-6 decision at 165 pounds. Pitt Bradford won the final three weight classes by forfeit.

Cortland took an early 7-6 lead versus Lycoming on a 15-6 major decision by Ben Lloyd (Woodbridge, VA/Forest Park) at 125 pounds and a 5-3 sudden-victory overtime decision by Matt Maquet (Long Beach) at 141 pounds. Following a Lycoming pin, Cortland won the next three matches to take a 16-12 lead. Silba won 6-4 at 157 pounds, Charlie Buckley (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan Dayton) was a 5-2 winner at 165 pounds, and Demitreus Henry (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) won 6-4 at 174 pounds.

Lycoming closed to within 16-15 after a decision at 184 pounds. Cortland pushed its lead back to four when Mark Rivera (Long Beach) won 7-4 at 197 pounds, and the Red Dragons held on for the win when Lycoming was only able to win by a 3-1 decision at 285 pounds.

Cortland wrapped up the team title with its victory over King's. The Red Dragons jumped out to a 26-0 lead after five matches on a pin by Lloyd at 125, major decisions by Pond at 141 and Ryan Burgbacher (Medford/Patchogue-Medford) at 149, and two forfeit victories. King's won the next two bouts before Henry posted a major decision at 184 and Rivera won 5-0 at 197 to close out Cortland's scoring.

Cortland returns to action at the Williams Open in Massachusetts on January 5 (new date - originally listed as January 4).
