YORK, PA. – The Cortland wrestling team tied for 10th place at the two-day New Standard Invitational, hosted by York College.

Three Red Dragons placed in the top six of their weight classes in the 15-school tournament. Demitreus Henry (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) was fourth at 174 pounds with a 4-2 record, Lucas Pincus (Valley Stream/Hewlett) finished fourth at 149 pounds with a 3-2 record, with his two losses coming versus nationally ranked opponents, and Gianno Silba (Newark Valley) went 3-3 to finish in sixth place at 157 pounds.

Cortland had three other wrestlers notch multiple victories over the weekend. Chandler Merwin (Walton) went 3-2 at 149 pounds, Charlie Buckley (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan Dayton) was 2-2 at 157 pounds and Kevin Morgans (Liberty) registered a 2-2 record at 184 pounds.

Henry won his first three matches – two by decision and one by medical forfeit – to advance to the semifinals at 174 before losing to TCNJ's Dan Kilroy. He rebounded to post a 17-6 major decision in his next match but lost in the third-place bout.

Pincus rang up two decisions to reach the 149 semis before a loss to nationally top-ranked Brett Kaliner of Stevens. He pinned his next opponent but lost in the third-place match, 11-7, to third-ranked Da'mani Burns of Johnson & Wales after leading 7-6 entering the third period.

Silba started the tournament with three wins at 157, including a technical fall and a major decision. However, he lost in the semis and dropped two matches in the consolation bracket.

Cortland and Averett each finished with 43 team points. Nationally fifth-ranked Johnson & Wales won the team crown with 158 points, followed by 11th-ranked TCNJ with 127 and 22nd-ranked Stevens with 123. Five of the 15 schools in the field entered the weekend ranked in the top 25 nationally.

Cortland returns to action on Monday, Dec. 16 with three matches at the Lycoming College Rennie Rodarmel All State Duals in Pennsylvania. The Red Dragons will face Pitt Bradford at noon, followed by matches against Lycoming and King's College (Pa.).
