Red Dragons Second in Home Tri-Meet; Hanley Ties School Balance Beam Record

Megan Hanley became the fifth gymnast in school history to register a 9.825 on beam
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Megan Hanley (Lynbrook/Malverne) tied the school record on a balance beam to help Cortland finish second in a tri-meet at Corey Gymnasium versus Ursinus College and Division II West Chester University.

West Chester won the meet with a score of 192.625. Cortland was second with a season-best 186.975 and Ursinus was a close third at 186.15. Cortland's score included season-best efforts on both balance beam (47.225) and floor exercise (48.175).

Hanley tied for first place on beam with a 9.825 and is the fifth gymnast in school history to reach that mark in the event. The other holders of the record include current Red Dragon Emma Schulz (Poughquag/Arlington) along with Bailey Gildemeyer, Elise Konikoff and Kelly Caltagirone. Schulz and Gildemeyer each posted the score last season, Konikoff accomplished the feat in the 2014-15 season and Caltagirone first set the mark in 2000-01.

Hanley also finished third on uneven bars with a career-best 9.50. Schulz was second on floor exercise with a season-best 9.825 and tied for eighth on vault with a 9.45. She also finished third in the all-around with a 37.275.

Rachel Filipski (Lancaster) placed fourth on vault with a 9.65 and Vivian Trevisani (Colchester, VT) finished sixth on bars with a career-high 9.35. Julie Giardina (Wantagh) recorded a season-best 9.70 on floor exercise for seventh place and a career-high 9.65 on beam for eighth place. Emily Speciale (San Antonio, TX/James Madison) was seventh on bars with a 9.30.

West Chester's Jessica Meakim was the top all-arounder with a 38.05 and won vault with a 9.775. Also for the Golden Rams, Myranda Marshall won uneven bars (9.75), Rose Fanara was the floor winner (9.85), and Yolanda Nodarse tied with Hanley for first on beam (9.825).

Cortland will host Ithaca on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Red Dragons' "Beauty and the Beast" that will also feature Cortland's wrestling team hosting the Bombers at Corey Gymnasium.
