MOUNT SINAI, N.Y. – The nationally 16th-ranked Catholic women's lacrosse team outscored 15th-ranked Cortland, 5-1, during a 10-minute stretch in the second half to break away from an 8-8 tie and went on to a 14-12 victory in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Mount Sinai High School on Long Island.
Despite the setback for the Red Dragons (2-2), junior
Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) became the 30th player in program history to reach 100 career goals, scoring four goals and adding an assist. Meager now has 102 goals in her two-plus season with Cortland.

Molly Newton (Skaneateles) recorded three goals and one assist, and junior
Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) also netted three goals for the Red Dragons. Senior
Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) and junior
Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) each scored a goals, and sophomore
Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) contributed an assist.

Kayla Sweeney (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scooped up two ground balls and caused two turnovers, freshman

Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) and Meager each won three draw controls.
Anna Maupin led Catholic (3-2) with a game-high five goals. Jess Lyons, Holly Regan, Wendy El and Ally Criscuolo each netted two goals, and Megan Ellis added a goal.
Goalie Nanci Hernandez stopped one shot in the first half before giving way to Rachel Searle who made two saves in the second half. Lyons won 11 draws and recorded three ground balls. Julia Clementi collected three ground balls and caused two turnovers, Erin Dugan scooped up three ground balls and Katie Sherry won three draws.
In a closely contested first half in which the largest lead for either team was two goals, the Red Dragons took a 6-5 lead into intermission. Yonge notched all three of her goals for Cortland during the opening 30 minutes, while Maupin and El each scored twice for the Cardinals.
Catholic scored three of the first four goals of the second half to gain an 8-7 lead at the 26:40 mark with Meager hitting her milestone 36 seconds into the half. Meager tied the game just 10 seconds later from the free position before the Cardinals went on their decisive scoring run to grab a 13-9 advantage with 13:57 to play.
The Red Dragons eventually cut into the Catholic lead, pulling to within, 13-12, on goals from Newton, Stone and Meager. Stone netted her goal with 57 seconds to play, and Meager tallied her fourth of the game 14 seconds later. The Cardinals won the ensuing draw control, and Maupin scored at 25 seconds to make it 14-12. After Catholic secured the next draw, the Cardinals turned the ball over with 16 seconds remaining, but the victory was sealed at that point.
