PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Thirteen different players scored goals as the nationally 15th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team defeated Plattsburgh, 21-1, in the first-ever match up between the two programs in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons evened their record at 3-3 overall and are now 1-0 in the conference, while the Cardinals, playing in their first season as a varsity program, are 1-6 and 0-1.
Freshman
Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) led Cortland with three goals, the first of her career. Sophomore
Emily Goebel (Penfield) tallied a career-high four points on two goals and two assists. Senior
Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) tallied two goals and one assist, juniors
Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) and
Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) each netted two goals and sophomore
Paige Hommel (East Islip/St. John the Baptist) and freshman
Katie Goodrich (Jordan/Jordan-Elbridge) each scored her first two goals as a Red Dragon.

Madison Lyon (Tully) and sophomore
Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) recorded one goal and three assists for Cortland with junior
Molly Newton (Skaneateles) and sophomore
Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) contributing one goal and one assist. Juniors
Keira O'Connor (Waterloo) and
Jordynn Aiello (Centereach/Newfield) notched her first goal of the season, and junior
Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) added two assists.
Three goalie split time in the cage for Cortland. Sophomore
Annie Casey (Bay Shore) started, making one save in 14:32. Sophomore
Paige Potter (Cortland) stopped one shot in 38:28, and freshman
Shauna Meehan (Suffern) did not face a shot on goal in seven minutes, her first collegiate action. Goodrich, Lyon and sophomore
Catie Fleming (Farmingdale) each caused two turnovers, Stone won six draw controls and Lorenzen secured five draws.
Emily Caoili scored a second-half goal and won two draws for the Cardinals. Alexa Cassidy made three saves in the first half for Plattsburgh, and Kaitlyn Boyea-Guynup registered seven saves in the second half. Frankie Porcaro collected three ground balls, while Katie Durfey scooped up two ground balls.
Cortland quickly seized control of the game, building a 10-0 lead less then 10 minutes into the contest as eight different Red Dragons tallied a goal. The lead grew to 14-0 at the half. Caoili opened the second-half scoring with her 10th goal of the season at 25:35 before the Red Dragons ended the game on a seven-goal run for the 21-1 final.
