Kelly Davey (Plattsburgh) earned her second All-America honor of the week and broke her own school record in the 100-yard freestyle Saturday during the final day of competition at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The four-day event was held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Davey was an honorable mention All-American with a 16th-place national finish in a field of 57 swimmers. The top eight finishers are All-Americans and spots 9-16 are honorable mention. Davey was an honorable mention All-American in the 50-yard freestyle Wednesday with a 12th-place showing.
Davey opened the day with the 13th-best time in preliminaries at 51.19 seconds, easily breaking her own school record of 51.56 seconds set at the SUNYAC Championships. Davey entered the meet with the 27th-best seed time in the event. In Saturday evening's consolation finals, Davey was eighth in 52.12 seconds to finish 16th overall.
"Kelly's a super kid who works hard and with a smile on her face," said Cortland head coach
Brian Tobin. "It's great to see her commitment pay off by performing well at the highest level."
Davey, Cortland's lone national qualifier, scored six team points with her two All-America finishes to lead the Red Dragons to a tie for 40th place in the final team standings.
